After a long uninterrupted entrepreneurship journey of more than 50 years, I consider values inherited from my parents as my biggest intangible assets at my disposal 24 hours a day to inspire, guide and support me to do something good. We had no wealth. My dad sold a portion of land he owned to obtain seed capital to purchase a sail fishing boat and a bicycle.
For more than a decade into the family fish trade business, we had no knowledge about financial literature, never had a bank account and if the idea of taking a loan emerged from nowhere it created fear and panic and summarily rejected as bad omen by my dad without further ado.
How then to start and grow a business initiative while dreaming good and big?
“Intangible assets” served as the main engine. They were about faith and belief; trust and self-confidence; about working hard and waking up before sunrise; to put quality first and to never compromise on it; to honor any commitment taken; promoting a green environment and enforcing cleanliness and hygiene which is next to godliness.
These “intangible assets”, omnipresent, served as the foundation stone to build, grow Bella Amigo into a successful fish and seafood trade business; espousing international norms and standards, it became a respected, trustful supplier to the hotel industry. Its clients’ portfolio covers several segments of the national economy.
